WHAT IS AN AUDIOLOGIST?

An audiologist is a licensed hearing health care professional who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of hearing loss and balance disorders in children and adults. When an audiologist works in the school setting, they are known as "Educational Audiologists."  An educational audiologist is a member of the school multidisciplinary team who provides support and facilitates listening, learning and communication access for students with hearing loss.
Educational Audiologists have a Doctorate of Audiology degree with an additional certification in education.  Educational Audiologists in schools are required to maintain two licenses - an Ohio Department of Education professional license and a license from the Ohio Speech and Hearing Professionals Board.
