Understanding the Social/Emotional Needs of Gifted Students

The presentation will inform attendees of how gifted students often vary from the norm in their emotional response patterns and are often prone to experience significantly more anxiety and subsequent depression. The brain science of anxiety and social learning will be explored and practices such as Mindfulness/Meditation to activate the parasympathetic nervous system will be introduced, as well as other practical techniques that can be implemented in the classroom to lower anxiety. “Tapping”, Brain Gym and the energy and power of thoughts, including positive affirmations will be demonstrated.

Afternoon Focus - The Nature and Social-Emotional Needs of the Gifted Student

Obtain 6 contact hours of Gifted Professional Development.
