State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG)
Ohio is committed to the development of a unified statewide system of support (SSOS) through the provision of high-quality consistent professional development (PD) and technical assistance (TA), which builds and sustains regional capacity for effectively supporting districts in their use of the Ohio Improvement Process (OIP) to enact essential leadership practices as outlined in Ohio’s Leadership Development Framework. A unified SSOS, one that is truly statewide in scope and systemic in nature, demands the use by all regional partners of a consistent set of protocols and tools to guide the development and delivery of PD and TA related to district/school improvement.
Year 4 (2010-2011) requirements associated with Ohio’s State Personnel Development Grant (SPDG) involve the development and delivery of PD and TA to identified cohort districts and the use of SPDG as a “testing ground” for the development of the OIP and its embedded tools. While partner cohort districts are required, as a condition of participation in SPDG, to participate in project-related PD and provide feedback to ODE and its regional partners, the goal of SPDG is to use project funds to leverage statewide scalability in the effective use of the OIP to assist all districts and schools in making and sustaining meaningful improvements in instructional practice and student achievement for all students, including students with disabilities. To that end, SPDG funds are used to support wider involvement of districts in the work, and to continue to build the capacity of the state’s regional infrastructure -- through Ohio’s 16 State Support Teams (SSTs) and their partner Educational Service Centers (ESCs) – to provide consistent, high-quality support to all districts and schools, particularly those identified as being in improvement status.
Trainings will be held regionally and will include a centralized showcase in May in Columbus.
