Applying for Substitute Teaching
Thank you for your interest in substitute teaching for the local school districts in Lorain County (Avon, Clearview, Columbia, Firelands, Keystone and Midview).
If this is the first time you are applying for substitute teaching or were not on last year's list, please complete the NEW Substitute Teaching Registration Form and return to the Educational Service Center of Lorain County, along with a copy of your current teaching license or substitute teaching license and copies of your current Ohio and FBI Records Checks. As always, whether you are applying for a new license or renewing your current license, you are required to have a criminal background check. Ohio Criminal Record Checks and FBI (Federal) Criminal Record Checks are only acceptable if they are less than one year old. Our Educational Service Center provides electronic fingerprinting and background check services. Please call 440-324-5777 for an appointment.
If you were on last year's (2008-09) substitute teaching list, please complete the RENEWAL Substitute Teaching Registration Form. Please note that you may need to have a BCI and FBI background check completed if you have a Permanent or 8-Year certificate (and were not fingerprinted within the past 12 months). If you have a 5-Year Professional Teaching License or a 5-Year Substitute Teaching License, you do not have to be fingerprinted until the year your license expires.
If you would like to apply to become a substitute teacher (or) wish to renew your current license, you will need to complete and print out the APPLICATION FORM to obtain (or renew) a Substitute Teaching License. Once completed, please return both the application and your check or money order to our office and we will forward to the Ohio Department of Education for processing. If you are applying for your first license, you are also required to submit an original copy of your transcript conferring your baccalaureate degree (copies are not accepted). Electronic fingerprinting/background check services are provided at our Educational Service Center. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call 440-324-5777.
