Safety and Violence Education Students (SAVE Students) ActRequirements for Safety and Violence Prevention in Ohio SchoolsThe SAVE Students Act supports Ohio’s strategic plan for education, Each Child, Our Future, which recommends the adoption of a whole child model of education. Ohio’s Whole Child Framework places the child at the center with the support of the district, school, family and community. A comprehensive approach includes meeting the physical and emotional safety of both students and educators. When implemented together, prevention curriculum, peer-led clubs, emergency management plans and threat assessments can create safe and caring learning and working environments for all.Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) TrainingOur ESCLC Wellness Coordinators have been trained in the nationally recognized Comprehensive School Threat Assessment Guidelines (CSTAG) . We offer training in the CSTAG model to school personnel statewide this school year. This training requires districts to create multidisciplinary threat assessment teams consisting of district and school staff from each school. This one-day, in person event, fulfills the Safety and Violence Education Students (SAVE Students) Act threat assessment training requirement. Suicide Prevention Protocols and FrameworkConsultation and coaching services are also available for district suicide prevention protocols and procedures. Through guided work sessions with your school team, we will enhance/create templates, protocols and a K-12 framework for suicide. Additionally, we offer training for staff on prevention, use of screening tools and protocols.
