Word Knowledge, Fluency and Comprehension with Informational and Narrative texts (4-8)
Presenter: Dr. Timothy Rasinski

Reading research of the past several decades have indicated that students’ understanding of words and their structure, reading fluency, and comprehension are keys to success in learning to read. More recent iterations of reading standards indicate that students need to develop competency in reading informational as well as narrative texts.

In this workshop, Dr. Timothy Rasinski will present proven instructional strategies for developing students’ word knowledge, their reading fluency, and comprehension with both narrative and informational texts. He will also show how both informational and narrative texts can be paired in ways that create a comprehensive and engaging literacy experience for students. He will also demonstrate materials that have already been paired in order to provide teachers with readily available resources for teaching these keys to reading success.
